Recovering an overturned vehicle is one of the most technically demanding operations in the recovery industry. A vehicle lying on its side or roof presents significant challenges including the risk of further rolling during the righting process, fuel and fluid leaks from inverted systems, structural damage that may cause the vehicle to collapse during lifting, and the safety of recovery personnel working around an unstable load.

Our overturned vehicle recovery teams are among the most experienced in the UK. They use a methodical approach that begins with stabilising the vehicle in its current position using chocks, straps, and air bags to prevent any further movement. Next, they carry out a detailed assessment of the vehicle's condition, identifying any structural damage, fuel leaks, or other hazards that need to be managed before the righting operation begins. A recovery plan is then developed, taking into account the vehicle's weight, dimensions, the available space, and the equipment needed.

The righting operation itself uses a combination of heavy-duty cranes, hydraulic lifting equipment, and controlled pulling with our recovery vehicles. The process is carefully managed to ensure that the vehicle is rotated smoothly and predictably back onto its wheels. Mats or padding are placed to protect the bodywork during the roll, and personnel maintain safe distances throughout the operation. Once the vehicle is upright, we assess whether it can be safely loaded onto a flatbed transporter or whether additional stabilisation is needed. We then transport the vehicle to its destination, which is often an insurance-approved salvage facility or a body repair centre. Throughout the process, we document the recovery with photographs and notes that can be used for insurance claims and accident investigations.
