Vehicle fires can be caused by electrical faults, fuel leaks, mechanical failures, or criminal activity, and the aftermath always requires specialist handling. A fire-damaged vehicle presents numerous hazards that standard recovery operators may not be equipped to deal with, including sharp and jagged metal, toxic chemical residues, compromised fuel tanks and lines, and the risk of re-ignition from smouldering components. Our fire damaged vehicle recovery service is trained and equipped to manage all of these hazards safely.

When attending a fire-damaged vehicle, our operators carry out a thorough risk assessment before approaching the vehicle. They check for signs of ongoing smouldering, leaking fuel, melted battery acid, and structural weakness in the body or chassis. They wear appropriate PPE including heat-resistant gloves, respiratory protection, and eye protection, and they deploy absorbent materials to contain any fluid leaks. If the fire service is still on scene, we work under their direction and do not begin the recovery until they have declared the vehicle safe to approach.

Loading a fire-damaged vehicle requires particular care. The bodywork may have weakened to the point where normal recovery points are no longer reliable, and the tyres may have melted or deflated, preventing the vehicle from rolling. We use a combination of heavy-duty winching, cradle systems, and our vehicle-mounted crane to lift and load fire-damaged vehicles without putting stress on weakened structural points. Once loaded, we transport the vehicle to the destination specified by the owner, insurer, or police. For vehicles that are the subject of a fire investigation, we preserve the scene as much as possible and follow any instructions from the investigating officer regarding evidence preservation.
